FLAVOR: Sahlep is a flour made from the tubers of the orchid flower. These tubers contain a nutritious, starchy flour. Sahlep flour is consumed in beverages and desserts, especially in places that were formerly part of the Ottoman Empire. Sahlep is a traditional winter beverage in the Mediterranean. white, starchy and has a velvety smooth texture. When added to milk, it lends the milk that velvety texture and adds a unique creamy taste that you just have to try!
TURKISH SAHLEP: Available in 2 cartons of 7.1 ounce (Total 14.2 ounces) Sahlep is a hot drink that was popular in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Initially, it later traveled into the Mediterranean and became very popular during the cold winter months. This is a thick creamy drink and also sweet with a slight vanilla flavor.
PREPARATION: Boil water or milk and add 1-2 teaspoons to taste of Sahlep for each cup. Stir until slightly thick. Garnish with cinnaman and serve hot.
HISTORY: Sahlep was a hot drink that was popular in England in the 18th and 19th centuries. Later, the roots and leaves of the North American sassafras tree were the key ingredient. This plant thickened the drink and also had a stimulating quality.
